My daughter is a college student at a College near Saranac Lake, the muffler and tailpipe fell off her car on campus. She took the car to Jim at Monro Muffler Brake in Saranac Lake, and seeing that she was somewhat naive, Monro Muffler Brake absolutely gouged her charging her $600 for a muffler and tailpipe.
Hard to find an honest shop these days.
We had a rare trip with having a flat on our way to Lake Placid on a Sunday Night, I made many calls on Monday to hear the same story "it will take 2 days to get a tire" but I called Monro and Jim the mgr said we have your tire come on in. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. Thanks Jim you and your team are awesome!!
$600 for a muffler and tailpipe on a 16 year old vehicle means that the exhaust system is now about 50% of the car's total value. Common sense and ethics should have guided them to a more cost effective solution.
I just read the reviews on this site and am totally amazed on the negativity. I have found Jim and his staff to be not only helpful and knowledgeable but extremely honest and conscientious about any work done on my cars. I will never go anywhere else.
The repair did not include a catalytic converter that I know would have been expensive. The $600 was just for a muffler, tailpipe and the associated labor.
Have had brake work and other repairs over the last three years. Jim and staff are prompt, courteous, and reasonably priced.
